The main factor contributing to the superiority of the quality of Malaysian Palm oil is that the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has developed a special patented technology for the extraction of the palm oil. This latest technology purifies the Tocotrienols from the fruits of oil palm (Elais guineensis) this was developed to produce a superior quality and purity. Tocotrienols are members of the Vitamin E family comprising of Tocotrienols and Tocopherols. Tocotrienols differ from the Tocopherol's in that they contain three double bonds in the side-chain.
The quality and standard of the refined palm oil is maintained throughout the industry in Malaysia due to regulations and controls implemented by the MPOB.
In 2012, Malaysia, the world's second largest producer of palm oil, produced 18.79 million tonnes of crude palm oil on roughly 5,000,000 hectares (19,000 sq mi) of land. Malaysia is the world's largest exporter of palm oil having exported 18 million tonnes of palm oil products in 2011. China, Pakistan, the European Union, India and the United States are the primary importers of Malaysian palm oil products.
The increasing international demand for stable superior quality of refined palm oil has contributed to Malaysia as one of the world's largest palm oil exporter as indicated in the article below.
Malaysia currently accounts for 39 % of world palm oil production and 44% of world exports. If taken into account of other oils & fats produced in the country, Malaysia accounts for 12% and 27% of the world's total production and exports of oils and fats. Being one of the biggest producers and exporters of palm oil and palm oil products, Malaysia has an important role to play in fulfilling the growing global need for oils and fats sustainably.
